PhD Research Opportunity in Neuroscience

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD applicant to join our research team at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake a PhD project in the field of neuroscience, with a focus on mitochondrial disease research.

About the Project

The project aims to investigate the transmission of the m.3243A>G variant in mammalian oogenesis and its impact on the risk of MELAS in the human population. The successful candidate will work closely with our research team to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in the field of neuroscience, with a focus on mitochondrial disease
  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate the transmission of the m.3243A>G variant
  • Analyze data and interpret results
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals
Requirements

Candidates must have a strong background in neuroscience or a related field, with a focus on mitochondrial disease research. A Master's degree or equivalent is required, and a PhD is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

What We Offer

The successful candidate will receive a tax-free stipend, at the current value of $35,013 per annum, as per the Monash Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend. The candidate will also have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment, and will be part of a supportive and inclusive research team.
