Clayton South, Victoria, Australia Monash University. Full time
The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD researcher to join our team at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake a PhD project in collaboration with Newcastle University, UK, and will spend up to 12 months at Newcastle University and the remainder of the time at Monash.

About the Project

The project aims to determine how the transmission of a pathogenic mitochondrial DNA variant is shaped by the biochemical demands of generating and transmitting a haploid maternal genome during mammalian oogenesis. This research has the potential to shed new light on the selection pressures that shape heteroplasmy levels and hence the risk of mitochondrial disease in the human population.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must meet the Monash University minimum requirements for admission to a PhD. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related field, and excellent research skills.

How to Apply

To express your interest in this scholarship and PhD research opportunity, please submit the following:

  • A cover letter describing your research interests and why you would like to undertake a PhD
  • A CV including qualifications, academic achievements, list of publications, work history, and references
  • A copy of your academic transcript(s)
