Job Description

The Director, Workplace Relations will lead the workplace relations function at a leading university in Australia, driving forward innovative industrial strategies and governance frameworks that align with our strategic goals.

This pivotal role will oversee a team of workplace relations consultants, providing expert guidance on sensitive and complex matters, including enterprise bargaining, union relations, grievance resolution, and organisational change.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience and demonstrated ability in a medium to large sized organisation, with significant workplace relations and governance capability, including an understanding of employment law, awards, and agreements within a complex and large organisation.

The Director will be responsible for leading and managing teams of senior HR professionals to deliver high quality and best practice service that meets the needs of the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing effective workplace relations strategies, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and legislative requirements.
  • Leading enterprise bargaining negotiations and overseeing the implementation of industrial agreements, ensuring effective communication, stakeholder engagement and sustainable outcomes.
  • Mentoring and guiding senior HR professionals to deliver high quality and best practice service that meets the needs of the business.
  • Providing strategic human resource leadership and contributing to the development of organisational policies and procedures.
  • Managing complex workplace relations issues and disputes, using strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Candidates should have relevant postgraduate qualifications or equivalent and extensive professional experience in employee and industrial relations functions in large, complex organisations.

The Director will report directly to the Chief People Officer and play a key role in ensuring people practices are fair, compliant, and future-ready.
