Job Description

The Two-way Science Initiative is an innovative approach to teaching and learning that connects the Western Australian Science Curriculum to Aboriginal knowledges, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the Department's Two-way Science Initiative, including supporting schools to build positive relationships with parents/carers and local Aboriginal communities in order to develop place-based culturally responsive teaching and learning programs for primary and secondary school students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Culturally competent organisational knowledge in planning and coordinating activities with Ranger Groups, community groups and school curriculum teams in developing school based Two-way Science programs, ensuring effective collaboration and mutual understanding.
  • Identifying and addressing challenges in the initiative's delivery, providing expert advice and guidance, and overseeing risk management to ensure safe and effective implementation of the program, maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Building effective working relationships with Aboriginal school communities and other key stakeholders, promoting trust and respect through open communication and regular feedback.
  • Working in partnership with curriculum team members within the Kimberley Regional Education Office and Statewide Services to deliver professional learning in collaboration with local and regional Aboriginal organisations, driving cultural responsiveness and innovation.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of policies, frameworks and issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including their historical and contemporary experiences.
  • Demonstrated high-level project management skills with a proven ability to plan, coordinate and evaluate culturally responsive initiatives in a complex environment, utilising sound judgment and adaptability.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to build mutually respectful relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal communities, organisations and stakeholders, facilitating effective information exchange and collaboration.
