Construction Tradesperson Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Tradesperson to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for undertaking construction, maintenance, and inspection tasks related to Council owned buildings and facilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building trades, with relevant certifications and experience in the industry. You will be required to possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake construction and maintenance tasks as directed by the supervisor;
  • Provide regular progress reports to management;
  • Manage Council's electrical goods test and tag program;
  • Assist with the preparation of building specifications and provide estimates for building projects;
  • Contribute to the inspection and programming of Council buildings maintenance;
  • Respond promptly and professionally to work requests;
  • Perform other duties as requested by management within the scope of the role.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This position involves working primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, requiring physical capability to perform manual laboring tasks such as climbing, shoveling, lifting, bending, twisting, pushing, squatting, reaching, and stretching.

A comprehensive tool allowance is provided, with employees expected to supply their own equipment.

Workplace Health and Safety Duties:
  • Take reasonable care for personal health and safety;
  • Ensure acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others;
  • Comply with instructions given to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety legislation;
  • Cooperate with policies and procedures relating to workplace health and safety.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Possession of a Building Trade certificate or equivalent qualification;
  • Current General Construction Induction Card;
  • Current Queensland 'C' Class Driver's Licence; and
  • Sound communication skills.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and government policies relating to asbestos management;
  • Test and Tag licence (or willingness to obtain).
