Senior Economic Development Lead

This role oversees the strategic development and implementation of economic initiatives, contributing to Queensland's prosperity through whole-of-government efforts.

We drive government priorities through expert advice and services, supporting the growth of the Queensland economy and job creation in line with the Government's economic recovery priorities and strategy.

The Industry, Investment and Commercial (IIC) group provides a strong commercial focus to increase high-value investment in Queensland through the attraction and facilitation of private sector investment. IIC offers strategic advice on significant commercial and strategic investments; infrastructure and property transactions, major procurements, commercial risk management, and the performance of Government Owned Corporations (GOCs) and government businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance on major economic development policies and projects, significant commercial transactions, infrastructure and property developments, and private sector engagement.
  • Develop strategies, drive change, and deliver outcomes that contribute to economic development for Queensland.
  • Lead an investment attraction and facilitation framework to increase and accelerate high-value private sector investment in Queensland.
  • Deliver on departmental service delivery statements and targets to create new jobs and attract capital expenditure across Queensland.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of significant funding and grant programs to attract high-value investment to Queensland.
  • Provide strategic oversight, direction, and advice to Shareholding Ministers regarding the operation, supervision, and performance of GOCs and government businesses.

Requirements:

You will demonstrate exceptional judgement, high-level integrity, ethics, and probity, along with strong adaptability to changing environments and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

- A record of success as a leader in a large and complex organization.

- Expertise and knowledge in leading:

  • Development and implementation of complex industry, investment, and commercial public policy frameworks and initiatives.
  • Robust and influential public policy advice.
  • Large commercial and/or financial transactions.
  • Fostering cross-sector collaboration.
  • Developing innovative and creative solutions to complex issues.

- Extensive expertise and experience in the successful delivery of significant and complex projects.

- High-level political acumen and a strong background in navigating and managing highly complex stakeholder engagement and relationships.

- A proven track record as an agent of change.
