About the Role

Council is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to drive strategic planning, asset management, and infrastructure development.

This pivotal role will oversee the coordination of integrated planning and reporting, citywide strategic planning, asset lifecycle management, and capital works planning.

Reporting directly to the Director City Future, you will lead a high-performing team of professionals and contractors in delivering exceptional outcomes that align with Council's ambitious vision and corporate objectives.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans and policies that achieve long-term community outcomes.
  • Overseeing the planning and delivery of major design projects that transform the city.
  • Coordinating the planning of Council's assets and infrastructure.
  • Leading the Project Management Office and developing process improvement initiatives.
  • Negotiating and aligning stakeholder expectations within the complex political and social environment.
  • Managing the team's budget and projects, monitoring outputs, and providing regular progress reports.
  • Ensuring approved infrastructure projects meet agreed outcomes and strategies.
  • Collaborating with departmental leaders to foster a unified approach to service delivery and problem-solving.
  • Representing Council within the community, business sector, and government agencies.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning, Engineering, Asset Management, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in developing and implementing strategic plans or policies.
  • Proven expertise in asset planning, including lifecycle management and infrastructure optimisation.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills to translate complex data into actionable strategies.
  • Demonstrated capability in budget development, financial management, and project delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with executives, elected officials, and communities.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing staff or contractors to achieve performance outcomes.
