Job Title: Senior Trauma-Informed Legal Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Trauma-Informed Legal Specialist to join our team in Katherine, Northern Territory. As a key member of our leadership group, you will play a critical role in shaping the delivery of our trauma-informed legal services to women and gender-diverse individuals across the Big Rivers Region.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide high-quality legal advice, casework, and representation in complex and/or litigious matters, with a focus on delivering trauma-informed support in areas including domestic and family violence (DFSV), child protection, and family law.

In addition to your expertise as a solicitor, you will possess exceptional leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and supervising junior solicitors. You will also have strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality legal advice, casework, and representation in complex and/or litigious matters
  • Provide trauma-informed support in areas including DFSV, child protection, and family law
  • Supervise and mentor junior solicitors, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional development and success
  • Represent the organization in both legal and community settings, building relationships with stakeholders and promoting our services
  • Contribute to internal strategy, compliance, risk, and funding reporting processes, ensuring that our organization remains up-to-date and compliant with all relevant laws and regulations
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • A minimum of 4 years post-admission legal experience in a relevant practice area
  • Expertise working within the fields of DFSV, family law or child protection, and familiarity with NT legislation or ability to upskill
  • Demonstrated ability to work in trauma-informed, culturally responsive ways
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities and a commitment to cultural safety
  • Excellent legal writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • SCHADS Level 7 salary ($120,000 – $130,000, commensurate with skills and experience)
