Australian Red Cross seeks a dedicated Community Development Officer to join our Emergency Services team in Cairns.

As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals and communities before, during, and after emergencies. With a focus on community development, you will engage with key stakeholders, applying your advocacy skills to ensure the needs of vulnerable populations are prioritized.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and building partnerships. You will also possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences. Additionally, you should have experience in emergency management, project management, or community engagement and/or community development.

In this role, you will identify community needs and create opportunities to build capacity and resilience. You will also develop local volunteer capabilities through mentorship and support, enhancing the skills and preparedness of those in the region.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and building partnerships
  • Experience in emergency management, project management, or community engagement and/or community development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences
  • Experience with volunteers' engagement and management, ideally in an emergency management or community development context
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Relevant degree and relevant experience
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
