Community Development Officer

About the Role
Australian Red Cross seeks a dedicated Community Development Officer to support the organisation's Emergency Services in Cairns. In this role, you will engage with key stakeholders, applying your advocacy skills to ensure the needs of the most vulnerable are prioritised before, during, and after disasters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify community needs and create engagement opportunities to build the capacity of individuals and communities to anticipate, respond to, and recover from crises.
- Develop local volunteer capabilities through mentorship and support, enhancing the skills and preparedness of those in the region.
- Act as a key ambassador for Red Cross, showcasing the organisation's impact across the region and fostering community trust.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and building partnerships.
- Experience in emergency management, project management or community engagement and/or community development.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to a range of audiences.
- Experience with volunteers' engagement and management ideally in an emergency management or community development context.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and database applications.
- Relevant four-year degree with one-year relevant experience or three year degree with two years of relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience.
- Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
