About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Practitioner to join our team at the Department of Justice. As a Legal Practitioner, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and representation to the State and its agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as solicitor and counsel in civil matters involving the State and its agencies before any State Courts, Tribunals, or Boards at first instance.
  • Provide advice to the State and its agencies in respect of civil legal issues.
  • Act as counsel in such matters involving the State and its agencies as may be directed from time to time by the State Litigator.
  • Assist as directed by the State Litigator and/or the Executive Officer of the State Litigation Office with the development and documentation of legal policies, practices, and procedures of the Office.
  • Participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the Assistant Solicitor-General (Litigation).
Essential Requirements
  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
  • A Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (employment).
Desirable Requirements
  • At least 2 years' experience in legal practice relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Current driver's license.
