Feedlot Operations Technician

We are seeking an experienced Feedlot Operations Technician to join our team. As a key member of the operations team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient running of our 27,000 head beef cattle feedlot.

The feedlot spans over 685 hectares of fertile river flats and produces grain and fodder crops for use in mixed rations fed to cattle within the feedlot.

  • You will work as part of the Pen Cleaning and Feeds teams, assisting with the cleaning, carting and processing of manure, as well as feeding operations.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and positioning plant for operation
  • Operating tractor drawn and self-propelled plant to plough land and sow, fertilise, cultivate and harvest crops
  • Calibrating and monitoring plant performance, including adjusting speed, height and depth of implements
  • Identifying the appropriate machine for the task being performed
  • Keeping production and work records and writing reports
  • Servicing plant and performing minor repairs
  • Conducting pre-start checks on all machinery and ensuring all machinery is running efficiently
  • Operating machinery efficiently to remove manure from pens and around the fertiliser processing area

Requirements:

  • One year of experience operating large broadacre farming machinery and/or earth moving equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision when required
  • An ability to follow set protocols and ensure compliance with relevant animal welfare, safety, and QA requirements
