About the Role

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is seeking a Senior Legal Officer to join its Legal Division. As a key member of the team, you will provide high-quality legal services, including research, analysis, and problem-solving advice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice on a broad range of issues, including statutory interpretation, administrative law, and regulatory actions.
  • Manage the department's litigation, including merits review, judicial review, and commercial disputes.
  • Develop legal risk and mitigation strategies, particularly in areas of novel or complex work.
  • Coordinate legislation bids and processes, including drafting instructions for the department's legislative reform agenda.
  • Provide administrative and financial support services to the Division.
Requirements
  • Hold a degree in law and be admitted to practice in Australia.
  • Have a minimum of three years of relevant post-admission experience.
  • Have a strong understanding of the legislative frameworks, decision-making processes, and guidelines relevant to the department.
