Assistant Director - Office of the Pacific

This is a key leadership role that plays a critical part in shaping Australia's engagement with the Pacific region. As Assistant Director, you will develop and implement strategic policy to bolster partnerships and build a stronger Pacific family.

  • You will contribute to the development and implementation of policies that support the Australian Government's Pacific Strategy and international development objectives.
  • You will work closely with regional stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership, and to develop programs that support the needs of Pacific communities.

The successful candidate will have experience in foreign and strategic policy, development policy, economics, and program management, as well as strong analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic policy to bolster partnerships in the Pacific and build a stronger Pacific family.
  • Deliver programs and formulate policy to support the implementation of the Australian Government's Pacific Strategy and international development policy.
  • Contribute to the formulation of international economic, trade and development policies and proposals for international development expenditure supporting our approach to partnering and collaborating with the Pacific region.
Requirements:
  • Experience in foreign and strategic policy, development policy, economics, and program management.
  • Familiarity with the geostrategic environment in the Pacific region.
  • Experience living or working in the Pacific region, with Pacific communities in Australia, and/or with First Nations communities in Australia.
