About the role of a Library Technician

This is a key position within our organization, providing essential library services to our clients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the acquisition and procurement process of digital resources, as well as user subscriptions to services. They will also use standard and specialized reference tools to respond to users' queries and provide guidance for self-research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessing the suitability of digital resources available, managing the acquisition/procurement process, and user subscriptions to services.
  • Using standard and specialized reference tools to respond to users' queries and provide guidance for self-research.
  • Managing the cataloguing of library resources in a range of formats and developing and reviewing cataloguing processes for the library and overseeing day-to-day cataloguing practices.
  • Managing the Library's off-site retrieval and depositing process.
  • Ensuring the Library has current and appropriate documented procedures and processes in place to facilitate effective management of the library including instructional materials on the use of library e-resources.
  • Promoting Library resources, intranet content, events, and newsletters.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A completed Diploma in Library and Information Sciences.
  • Experience working with physical and digital library resources, with a sound knowledge of the full range of functions undertaken in a library setting.
  • Experience in acquisition/procurement activities.
