Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Operations Manager to join our Engineering Services division in Port Melbourne.

About the Role

This role involves overseeing facility maintenance operations and ensuring compliance with health and safety laws and regulations. You will be responsible for managing the maintenance and dangerous goods programs, implementing best practices to ensure reliability and safety of operations.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive maintenance schedule for industrial plant, equipment, and facilities using MEX software.
  • Organizing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including third-party suppliers.
  • Conducting regular inspections and preventive maintenance of plant machinery and equipment.
  • Managing and maintaining Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments for relevant equipment.
  • Managing maintenance budgets and controlling costs without compromising safety and efficiency.
  • Overseeing daily activities of the maintenance team, ensuring timely completion of all maintenance tasks.
  • Ensuring availability of necessary spare parts and maintenance supplies.
  • Managing and maintaining accurate records of chemical stock holdings, risk assessments, and relevant documentation in accordance with regulations and guidelines using ChemAlert software.
  • Developing and maintaining procedures for safe management of hazardous materials.
  • Conducting regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards related to Dangerous Goods.
  • Managing and maintaining accurate calibration records of relevant equipment.
  • Scheduling and organizing calibration of equipment through external laboratories and suppliers, minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) laws and regulations.
  • Developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, including JSA/SWMS as required.
  • Ensuring quality accreditation, regulatory, and legislative compliance.
  • Implementing WHS plans and procedures effectively in work areas, including staff induction and training, and addressing WHS hazards promptly.
  • Ensuring operations are implemented with environmental considerations in accordance with the Environmental Management System (ENVMS).
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant trade qualifications.
  • Experience in facility/workshop and plant management or equivalent.
  • Certification in WHS is advantageous.
  • Experience in managing contractor services.
  • Ability to engage positively with technical, engineering, scientific, and management stakeholders.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in compliance management software like MEX and ChemAlert.
  • Knowledge of compliance with legislation, regulations, and requirements regarding Workplace Healthy and Safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive and proactive attitude.
