Cultural Heritage Specialist Role

We are seeking a seasoned professional to fill the role of Cultural Heritage Specialist.

Job Description:

The selected candidate will play a pivotal part in ensuring our organization meets its cultural heritage obligations and responsibilities. This involves providing expert advice to project leaders and stakeholders to guarantee compliance with relevant legislation, such as the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003, and our First Nations Commitment Statement.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support project teams in identifying key issues, risks, and opportunities for engagement with Traditional Owners on matters of native title and cultural heritage.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop strategies for managing risks and realizing opportunities for all parties.
  • Maintain inclusive and culturally appropriate communication with Traditional Owner groups and relevant organizations to ensure transparency and alignment with our First Nations Commitment Statement.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or at least 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Native title expertise, including engagement and management of Native Title and Cultural Heritage matters, coordinating cultural heritage negotiations, and conducting cultural heritage survey assessments.
  • Strategic vision, including participating in the development and implementation of terms agreed with relevant parties in cultural heritage management plans/agreements.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and presenting quality reports and findings to senior leadership.
