Protecting Vulnerable Communities is a vital aspect of our role at the Office of the Public Guardian.

We are an independent statutory office that safeguards the rights and interests of adults with impaired decision-making capacity, children, and young people in the child protection system.

As a Legal Officer, you will play a key part in ensuring the well-being of our most vulnerable community members. Your responsibilities include:

  • Performing advocacy functions for children and young people in areas of law such as child protection, youth justice, education, human rights, and administrative law.
  • Advising, assisting, and supporting children and young people to uphold their rights and access information about decisions.
  • Advocating for children and young people in meetings, court proceedings, and tribunals.
  • Building and sustaining positive relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring all work complies with data entry and reporting requirements and meets corporate and professional responsibilities.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A law degree from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Be admitted or eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
  • A driver's licence.
  • A minimum of 12 months post-admission professional experience in relevant areas of law (desirable).

It is mandatory to obtain a Working with Children Check clearance. We will guide applicants on how to apply.
