Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled External Budgets Specialist to join our team. This role involves developing and providing strategic advice on complex budget matters, including resource management frameworks and ministerial submissions.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

- Developing and implementing budget strategies to achieve optimal outcomes
- Collaborating with stakeholders to review and analyze budget proposals, including costing models and justifications
- Identifying alternative funding and delivery mechanisms within Commonwealth policy and legislative frameworks
- Coordinating portfolio budget estimates, including analyzing and reviewing financial estimates and costing models
- Contributing to budget publications, such as Portfolio Budget Statements and Additional Estimates Statements
- Providing input into the development of ministerial briefing packages and drafting correspondence relating to the budget process
- Assisting in responding to ad-hoc queries and briefing requests from ministers' offices and central agencies
- Building and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, portfolio entities, and key Commonwealth agencies

- Ability to adapt and work flexibly to respond to and achieve results within short timeframes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including researching issues to develop advice with sound judgement and discretion
- Sound verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities, supervise junior staff, and work within a team or individually
