Lead Botanist Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Botanist to join our team in Perth, Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and leading field-based ecology survey work, including baseline surveys, monitoring programs, and targeted flora and weed assessments across various bioregions.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in environmental science, ecology, biology or similar, with 7-10+ years professional experience in botanical surveys, ecological consulting, vegetation assessments, or related fieldwork. Strong technical reporting skills and proficiency in GIS desktop and data collection packages (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Fieldmaps) are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and lead field-based ecology survey work, including baseline surveys, monitoring programs, and targeted flora and weed assessments.
  • Plan, deliver, and analyze ecology surveys independently or collaboratively, performing impact assessments and designing mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in managing the technical performance and delivery of ecological projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Degree in environmental science, ecology, biology or similar.
  • 7-10+ years professional experience in botanical surveys, ecological consulting, vegetation assessments, or related fieldwork.
  • Strong technical reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS desktop and data collection packages (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Fieldmaps).
  • WA driving license and ability to work outdoors on short and extended field programs.
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation (EPA technical guides, BC Act).
