Ecological Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Ecological Consultant to join our team in Newcastle, NSW. As a key member of the team, you will work on large and complex ecology projects for government, mining, land development, renewable energy, and industrial facilities.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and experienced ecological consultant who can manage ecological projects, engage with clients, prepare proposals and reports, undertake fieldwork, and provide development opportunities for junior staff. You will also represent the organization at industry forums and participate in professional institutions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage ecological projects from inception to completion, ensuring high client satisfaction.
  • Prepare proposals and reports, including complex deliverables and peer review of junior staff work.
  • Undertake fieldwork competently and safely, complying with health and safety requirements and internal/external client procedures.
  • Project Manage your own portfolio of ecological projects, providing oversight to assistant project managers.
  • Develop and mentor junior staff to expand their skills and technical capabilities.
  • Provide advice on environmental legislation and policies, ensuring assessments comply with local/state/Commonwealth regulations.
  • Represent the organization at industry forums and participate in professional institutions.

Your Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with a relevant degree in environmental science (ecology) or natural resource management, BAM Accredited Assessor status, and extensive experience in the environmental consulting industry. You should have demonstrated success in managing complex ecological survey and monitoring projects, proficiency in undertaking BAM vegetation integrity plots, and strong verbal communication and technical report writing skills.
