About the Role

The Australian Government Department of Defence is seeking a dedicated Senior Laboratory Scientist to join their team at the ADF Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute (ADFMIDI) in an exciting opportunity to contribute to antimalarial research. This full-time position involves laboratory-based work, including the analysis of antimalarial drugs using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS). The ideal candidate will have experience in LCMS and be knowledgeable about quality assurance programs.

About the Team

The Department of Drug Evaluation at ADFMIDI provides technical advice to Defence on vector-borne diseases, such as malaria and dengue. The department conducts research into intervention methods, including antimalarial drugs and vaccines, to protect Australian Defence Force personnel from vector-borne infections.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain procedures and documentation for quality assurance programs to fulfill National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation requirements;
  • Undertake and coordinate animal technicians in in vivo tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy assessment of new antimalarial candidates using animal models such as mice;
  • Conduct laboratory tests using LCMS to analyze antimalarial drugs.

Key Requirements

  • A strong background in LCMS, with knowledge of quality assurance programs;
  • Experience in working with small animals;
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills;
  • A keen interest in learning and contributing to a dynamic research team.
