Your Role

The role will be to undertake laboratory and office-based work including antimalarial drug analysis using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS).

Maintain procedures and documentation for quality assurance programs to fulfill National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation requirements for drug analysis.

Undertake and coordinate animal technicians in in vivo tolerability, pharmacokinetics and efficacy assessment of new antimalarial candidates using animal models such as mice in accordance with the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

About Our Team

The Department of Drug Evaluation at the ADF Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute (ADFMIDI) provides technical advice to Defence on vector borne diseases (VBDs) of military importance such as malaria and dengue.

The Department performs research into VBDs intervention methods including antimalarial drugs and vaccines to protect Australian Defence Force personnel from vector borne infections.

The Department's team comprises scientists and research assistants who, through pre-clinical and clinical studies, perform parasitological and pharmacological investigations of new and standard antimalarials to prevent and treat drug resistant malaria.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a dedicated and reliable person with relevant experience in LCMS, malaria and/or other infectious diseases and small animal research.

The candidate possesses knowledge and exposure to quality assurance programs.

They will be multi-skilled in various laboratory procedures, hardworking and show foresight in pursuing their responsibilities.

This person will be a quick learner with excellent record keeping and report writing skills.

They will be keen to learn and be part of a dynamic research team in assisting Defence with its national and international collaborators in researching infectious diseases of military importance.
