Job Overview

The Department of Medicine at the Mackay Base Hospital has opportunities for a Principal House Officer to join their team on a Temporary Full-Time basis.

This role involves providing holistic care to patients admitted under Department of Medicine under the supervision of a staff specialist, participating in daily consultant-led ward rounds, and conducting comprehensive clinical assessments of patients in the emergency department, medical wards and outpatient setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for arranging and initiating clinical investigations and discharge planning as directed by the supervising consultant, participating in General Medicine or subspecialty outpatient clinics as directed, and maintaining comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records for all patients.

Additionally, the Principal House Officer will participate in out-of-hours roster including nights and weekends, and contribute to teaching, quality improvement and professional development activities as directed.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and skilled healthcare professional to develop their skills and experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.

  • Clinical assessment and management of patients with diverse range of multiple active co-morbidities or undifferentiated illnesses above the age of 16 years requiring ongoing inpatient, ward-based hospital care.
  • Participation in daily consultant-led ward rounds and out-of-hours rosters.
  • Maintenance of comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records for all patients.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Requirements

The employee must be, and remain, vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases as listed on the Role Description.
