Chief Executive Officer Job Overview:

The Australian Energy Regulator is seeking a high-impact Chief Executive Officer to lead the regulation of the gas and electricity markets in Australia.

This is an opportunity to lead a dedicated and capable team, collaborate and influence at senior national levels, and shape the future of energy in Australia as it transitions to net zero emissions.

As Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction, including supporting the development and execution of the AER's Strategic Plan.

You will also develop and manage budgets to ensure activities are conducted within approved parameters and aligned with the strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and empowering the senior leadership team, assigning responsibilities clearly, supervising performance and fostering a high-performing values-driven culture
  • Developing and implementing organisational strategies that drive growth and innovation

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of government operations and regulatory frameworks, knowledge of Australian electricity and gas markets, and the role purpose and objectives of the regulator.

They will also possess a proven ability to manage performance against targets, operational risk, and lead innovation.

Tertiary qualifications in law, economics/commerce, engineering, public policy or related fields are highly desirable.
