Media Center Support Specialist

This role is a key member of the media center team, promoting the vision and mission of School Library Media Programs. The position involves creating a warm and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the entire school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the principal and media specialist to achieve the goals of the media center team.
  • Support students in developing information literacy skills, research skills, and accessing online services and library resources.
  • Manage the school-wide library media catalog and perform daily routine operations of the media center.
  • Provide guidance to student aides and parent volunteers, and assist in the orientation and training of new support specialists when applicable.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate's degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with children in instructional settings or using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and internet.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a library environment is beneficial.

This position demands strong interpersonal skills, effective communication abilities, and a growth mindset to serve students and meet the needs of the school community. Adaptability to new technologies, proficiency with computer applications, and operation of various equipment are essential.
