Senior Technical Leadership Role

This position would be suitable for an experienced professional with a strong technical background and leadership skills, who is looking to take on a senior management role within a software development team.

The successful candidate will lead a team of software engineers in the delivery and ongoing support of various Linux kernel projects. This will involve working closely with team members to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery, as well as identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing changes as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a distributed team of software engineers in the delivery of all Linux kernels.
  • Take ownership of particular aspects of the Linux kernel, including working with silicon or cloud partners, ensuring the kernel runs on diverse hardware platforms, and defining quality control standards.
  • Mitigate security threats and exploits to the Linux kernel, implement strong process automation, and engage with other teams at Canonical.

Requirements:

  • Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other like languages highly regarded.
  • Substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts, Linux highly regarded but not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers, ability to coordinate between multiple distinct teams.
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git, prior experience developing with software packaging formats highly regarded.
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.
