We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as The Americas Keeper. This role is responsible for the daily care of animals in the Americas section of the zoo, highlighting animals from North, Central, and South America.
This position requires a deep understanding of animal behavior and operant conditioning. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with co-workers, management, and guests.
- Provide general husbandry for all animals in the Americas section, including habitat cleaning, diet preparation, training, enrichment, and daily health observations.
- Perform minor habitat repairs and maintenance.
- Work comfortably with all species in this area, with training provided.
- Maintain accurate daily records.
- Train additional staff and interns.
- Work under the guidance of Animal Management to ensure animal wellbeing standards are met.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of one year of zoo keeping experience in an AZA accredited facility.
- A valid Florida driver's license.
- Flexibility with schedule including holidays, weekends, evenings, and emergencies.
- A willingness to work in inclement weather, including high temperatures and humidity.
Prior experience working with Black Bears, Primates, and Large Cats would be beneficial.
