Job Title: Wildlife Conservation Specialist

We are seeking two highly motivated and skilled professionals to join our team in collecting field-based wildlife data related to bushfire research and management. The positions will participate in a collaborative research project between Museums Victoria and the University of Melbourne Biodiversity Dynamics Research Group.

Job Description:

The selected candidates will be responsible for participating in fieldwork involving surveys of wildlife in Victoria, deploying wildlife cameras and acoustic monitoring devices in the field, including driving to field locations. They will also be required to tag images of wildlife and/or acoustic recordings with taxonomic identifications and prepare data for registration in Museums Victoria's KE EMu database.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake field-based animal surveys, including adhering to field safety procedures.
  • Identify Australian vertebrates, particularly birds, and provide accurate taxonomic information.
  • Manage images and image metadata, ensuring high-quality data collection.
  • Enter data into spreadsheets and maintain accurate research records.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience undertaking field-based animal surveys, including adherence to field safety protocols.
  • Strong understanding of Australian vertebrate identification, especially birds.
  • Excellent image management skills, including metadata handling.
  • Proficient in data entry and record-keeping using spreadsheets.
