Job Overview

The role of a senior estimator involves analyzing contract documents to determine project requirements and developing estimates for construction projects.

Succeeding in this position requires a strong understanding of construction methods, planning, scheduling, and sequencing. The ideal candidate will have experience with self-perform estimate and productivity understanding, as well as knowledge of different construction delivery models.

The job demands expertise in quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing procedures. Additionally, the ability to lead successful teams, develop productive working relationships with owners, peers, and industry representatives, is crucial.

The selected individual will be responsible for conducting detailed analysis of contract documents, establishing critical path schedules, completing full quantity take-offs, and leading pricing efforts. They will also need to complete as-bid estimates, document all information relating to the estimate, and conduct risk and opportunity analyses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents to determine overall project requirements.
  • Establishes critical path schedules including milestone dates and completion timelines.
  • Completes full quantity take-offs of labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Leads pricing efforts for general expense and project-specific general requirements.
  • Completes as-bid estimates and trade buy-out strategies.
  • Assists in presenting estimates/proposals and prepares client presentations.
  • Documents all information relating to the estimate and archives such information.
  • Conducts risk and opportunity analyses for review by chief estimator.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent.
  • Gold Seal certification in estimating required (CDN).
  • 12 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating with 12 months of onsite experience preferred.
  • Successfully led pursuits valued up to $250 million in various delivery models.
  • Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation.
  • Expertise in understanding and teaching contract terms.
