Job Title: Indigenous Health and Cultural Officer

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Health and Cultural Officer to join our team at the Murtupuni Centre for Rural and Remote Health. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the clinical, administrative, and research activities of the centre.

The position involves providing cultural brokerage, enhancing cultural awareness, and mentoring staff and students to improve access to high-quality rehabilitation services for First Nations participants. This includes assisting participants in navigating health and disability services, maintaining clinical areas, and supporting research initiatives involving First Nations Peoples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally respectful support to patients and their families
  • Enhance cultural awareness and understanding among staff and students
  • Mentor and support staff and students in providing culturally appropriate care
  • Assist in the development and implementation of culturally sensitive policies and procedures
  • Support research initiatives involving First Nations Peoples

Requirements:

  • Experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and cultural brokerage
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Relevant qualifications (health or community-related degree, Aboriginal Health Worker, or Allied Health Assistant Cert IV)
