About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Safe Start Case Manager to join our team at Relationships Australia South Australia. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in reducing infant removals at birth and during the first 1000 days by enhancing protective attachments and developing robust family plans to address child protection concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic case management services to unborn babies, infants, and their families through intake, assessment, referral, and case management activities.
  • Engage with families through face-to-face strategies, including sharing child protection concerns, cold calling, unannounced home visits, and using ISG protocols.
  • Offer proactive support to families with intensive case management over a 6-8 month period.
  • Manage a caseload of 8-10 high-risk, complex cases, providing up to four hours of support per family per week, gradually stepping down until service closure or handover.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and validated tools for assessing family risk and functioning, guided by Signs of Safety and Restorative Practice principles.
  • Ensure effective interagency collaboration and regular client service reviews for each referred family.
  • Contribute to the efficient functioning of the Safe Start service using client information and management systems.
  • Monitor and review service delivery data to ensure quality outcomes and efficient use of funding.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications (AQF level 7) in social work, psychology, occupational therapy, developmental education, counselling or youth work, or a Diploma (AQF Level 5) with equivalent experience in one of the aforementioned fields.
  • Experience working with infants, children, and parents dealing with the impact of trauma caused by violence, abuse, and neglect, and co-morbid factors of alcohol and substance misuse, mental health challenges.
  • Experience in assessment, risk screening, case planning, and review.
  • Experience in delivering services to children and families at risk of entering the child protection system.
  • Experience in providing collaborative case management and working with interagency networks supporting children and families at risk.
  • Experience working with families with infants and young children, including families from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.
