Job Description:Lodged at Castlemaine, a 477-bed medium security prison for sentenced male prisoners, is an opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the correctional services sector. The role involves providing a critical function within the custodial operations unit.About the Business Unit:The focus of the prisons is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training, and the provision of programs and targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote prosocial behaviour. The contemporary and quality correctional services provided prepare prisoners for transition and reintegration.The Role:As a prison industry officer, you will be responsible for managing and delivering specific functions within a prisoner industry or service industry under the guidance of a prison industry supervisor. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, and developed capabilities to coach, mentor, and motivate prisoners, along with highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.Key Responsibilities:- Supervise achievement of commercial production targets and customer expectations
- Develop and monitor budgets, procure goods and services; ensure security, occupational health and safety, and food safety compliance is adhered to.
- Actively identify, refer, and support prisoners' participation in integrated education into prisoner employment.
- Deliver against production performance targets, industry requirements, and occupational health and safety, and food safety compliance.Qualifications/Requirements:- A demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of modern industry techniques and the maintenance of industry equipment would be desirable.
- The successful applicant will be required to complete prison officer pre-service training on commencement if not previously completed.
