Job Title:

Mechanical Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Newcastle Rod Mill.

You will be the technical expert and reliability lead for a designated area of the mill, driving safe, cost-effective, and efficient maintenance practices that directly impact plant performance and business outcomes.

  • Leading safety practices and promoting a 'Goal Zero' culture across maintenance teams and contractors
  • Developing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and availability to meet production requirements
  • Identifying and delivering continuous improvement projects and capital projects to ensure long term sustainability
  • Managing maintenance costs and spare parts inventories to optimise total cost of ownership
  • Coordinating and executing planned shutdowns and repairs
  • Providing coaching and technical guidance to the broader maintenance team
Key Requirements:

A strong background in mechanical engineering, preferably within heavy industry or manufacturing

Proven ability to improve plant reliability through structured maintenance strategies

Experience leading safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with WHS and environmental standards

Strong understanding of RCA methods and Asset Strategies

Excellent communication and leadership capabilities

Proficiency in SAP or similar CMMS for planning and tracking maintenance activities
