Mechanical Engineering Specialist for Capital Projects

Delivering exceptional engineering services as a Senior Mechanical Engineer is an exciting opportunity at Boral. As part of our Capital Projects Team, you will investigate, design and provide effective support to Major Capital Projects Project Managers.

With a focus on front-end mechanical design and scoping work, your responsibilities will include designing and delivering new capital equipment across Boral's construction materials portfolio, including quarries, concrete plants, asphalt plants and cement facilities with alternative fuel systems.

You will report to the Principal Mechanical Engineer and be based in Berrima, NSW. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a competitive salary.

Your daily tasks will involve:

  • Problem investigation and analysis to prepare conceptual solutions for Borals Major Projects portfolio
  • Estimating, evaluating costing and design, as well as monitoring and reporting progress of engineering scope
  • Sizing process equipment including material handling and logistics concepts for transport, storage and production capacity
  • Sites investigations - defining necessary measures in coordination with nominated plant responsible for process requirements
  • Preparation of Request for Quotation (RFQ) documents through to pre-qualification of suppliers and evaluation of technical tenders
  • Project management for studies and investments focused on design aspects for project scope
  • Assessment and approval of drawings from internal and external sources

To be successful, you should have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated experience within a heavy industrial site
  • Experience of process equipment, handling systems and operating conditions, and typical design problems of old equipment
  • Experience in design for industrial investment projects and knowledge of equipment/service costs, material handling for capital project estimation
  • Experience in development of CFT documents
  • Experience with the use of design software (AUTOCAD, INVENTOR, Microsoft Project)
  • Able to troubleshoot and commission industrial mechanical projects, resolve engineering issues and provide mechanical technical support to others delivering the implementation of the project
