Research Role

We seek a collaborative Research Associate to contribute to a high-impact research program investigating changes in ocean temperature and Earth's energy balance as part of the Precision Climate Tracking project. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver precise, policy-relevant insights into the evolving climate system.

  • Expertise is required in large scale Southern Ocean circulation and coupled ocean-atmosphere modelling.
  • Experience in postgraduate research supervision is essential.
  • A good record of and continuing commitment to internationally recognised research that makes worthwhile contributions to physical oceanography is expected.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping national and global understanding of climate mitigation efforts and supporting decision-makers with robust scientific evidence.

Opportunity Overview

This fixed-term position is based at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), a globally recognised centre of excellence in marine and climate science. You will contribute to building and maintaining effective links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession and wider community.

  • Hold a PhD or equivalent in physical oceanography or an equivalent highly related discipline.
  • Have in-depth skills in the use of climate model data sets and their analysis.
  • Knowledge of machine learning or other spatial Artificial Intelligence methods is desirable.
