Position: Estimator
Location: Redfern Office

Why This Position is Unique:
The Estimator plays a crucial role in overseeing the cost estimation for new tenders and ongoing projects. This involves developing rates, schedules, quantities, and pricing for various project types related to Water and Wastewater infrastructure. The Estimator collaborates closely with the construction and delivery teams to create accurate estimates for a range of treatment and network infrastructure assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with internal teams including Design, Construction, Safety, Proposals, and management to ensure precise and timely cost estimation.
  2. Establish and implement cost estimation standards, procedures, and tools that align with organizational objectives.
  3. Maintain a benchmarking framework/database for projects, providing trend analysis and insights to enhance cost methodologies.
  4. Conduct benchmarking for cost comparisons using first principles, historical projects, and various sources.
  5. Keep supplier and pricing schedule databases updated with current pricing information.
  6. Assist in preparing cost plans, tenders, and budget estimates as necessary.
  7. Deliver high-quality analytical support for project cost plans, budget estimates, tenders, and business cases in a timely manner.
  8. Ensure appropriate resources are applied to develop accurate estimations.
  9. Comprehend the scope, material take-off, technical specifications, and operational processes.
  10. Consistently prioritize safety and adhere to organizational HSEQ requirements while supporting the mission of Delivering Differently.
  11. Understand the significance and application of Cost Breakdown and Work Breakdown structures.
  12. Exhibit strong attention to detail and time management skills to meet deliverable deadlines.
  13. Provide analytical support for regular reviews and validation of cost planning and estimates, highlighting potential issues to the Lead Estimator.
  14. Participate in bid reviews to ensure accuracy in cost estimation and identify areas for enhancement.
  15. Engage with the construction team to gather site feedback for future estimation improvements.
  16. Collaborate with clients to align on methodologies and work breakdowns.
  17. Conduct site visits as necessary to gain a better understanding of scope and access challenges.
  18. Exercise sound judgment in managing confidential and sensitive information that could impact organizational performance and reputation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Possession of a current Driver's License is desirable.
  • Experience in Quantity Surveying or Estimation.
  • Background in major infrastructure projects.
  • Additional qualifications in Project or Construction Management are advantageous.
