About the Role

The Commercial Energy Asset Manager is a key position at Tesla, responsible for overseeing the commercial and operational aspects of deployed commercial and industrial (C&I) battery energy storage projects and charging portfolios.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Performance and Optimization
    • Facilitate the monitoring and challenge of operational performance and optimization metrics to achieve the highest possible availability and gross profit for the assigned asset.
  • Site Operations and Safety
    • Work closely with the onsite operations team to ensure safe and efficient operations of the asset.
  • Commercial and Contractual Management
    • Manage and resolve legal, contractual, regulatory, and commercial issues as they arise.
    • Ensure compliance with all project governing documents, including Power Purchase Agreements, O&M Agreements, Interconnection Agreements, land leases, etc.
  • Stakeholder Relationships and Communication
    • Manage day-to-day stakeholder relationships (internally and externally) with local and state authorities, regulatory agencies, landowners, end customers, field service teams, finance/accounting teams, and other parties needed to operate the asset.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting
    • Review recurring reports on project performance as needed per contractual obligations and drive the closure of open cases/inquiries across the portfolio.
  • Contract Renewals and Negotiations
    • Negotiate contracts renewals as needed.
  • Maintenance and Operations
    • Monitor and influence all maintenance and operations for the assets based on fleet health, organizational priorities, and current fiscal relationship with end customer.
  • Revenue Maximization and Risk Management
    • Work with internal and external resources to develop strategies that maximize revenue and reduce risk and market exposure of the asset.
  • Agility and Adaptability
    • Agility and ability to manage challenges through rapid growth.
  • Travel and Commercial Skills
    • Ability to travel both regionally within the state and interstate when required.
    • Strong commercial skills to manage various complex commercial/contractual matters over the lifecycle of projects.
Requirements
  • Project Finance and Contract Management
    • Strong understanding of project finance, legal contracts, accounting, and contract/warranty negotiations.
  • Energy Market Knowledge
    • Intimate knowledge of the energy and renewable energy market, and the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy.
  • Commercial and Leadership Skills
    • Commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire people to action through his/her influence.
  • Operational Experience and Learning Skills
    • Understanding of integrated system design and operations. Prior operational experience at solar, wind, thermal, coal, hydro, or nuclear industries a plus.
    • Strong learning skills with aptitude to independently research, understand, and implement knowledge in new areas.
  • Financial Analysis and Attention to Detail
    • Experience with standard financial metrics and analysis.
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to effectively multitask managing heavy workload.
  • Education and Background
    • Background in Engineering, Business, or equivalent industry experience.
