Fabrication Workshop Manager Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fabrication Workshop Manager to lead our welding and fabrication operations.

This role involves overseeing a team of welders, fabricators, and apprentices, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to specification.

  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate a team of welders, fabricators, and apprentices.
  • Oversee fabrication jobs from drawings through to completion.
  • Create and manage weld maps, fabrication schedules, and WPS documentation.
  • Conduct welder qualification testing and manage weld/material traceability.
  • Review drawings and ensure all work meets quality and specification requirements.
  • Liaise with project managers and engineers to coordinate workflow.
  • Manage yard and logistics operations to ensure efficient material handling, dispatch, and deliveries.
  • Enforce workplace safety procedures and ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards.
  • Assist with NDT requests and review reports for compliance.
  • Support HR functions including training, mentoring apprentices, and performance management.
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
  • Trade qualification in Fabrication or Boilermaking.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in welding and structural/piping supervision or workshop management.
  • AS1796 Certificate 10 Welding Supervisor (preferred) or equivalent IIW qualification.
  • Strong trade technical skills in STT (GMAW-S), FCAW, GTAW, and MMAW/SMAW processes.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex fabrication/engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); CAD/Navisworks advantageous.
  • Forklift and/or crane ticket beneficial.
