Job Summary

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University is seeking a visionary leader to drive innovation and excellence in the field of Australian Astronomical Optics. As the Director, you will be responsible for leading a team of researchers and engineers to develop cutting-edge technology for astronomical instruments, software, and data systems.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to join a world-class research institution and contribute to the development of next-generation facilities. You will be part of a matrix structure with close collaboration across functional groups, and will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, including industry partners, government agencies, and academic institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of researchers and engineers to develop innovative technology for astronomical instruments, software, and data systems
  • Collaborate with researchers across the discipline, faculty, and wider academic community to drive multidisciplinary collaborations
  • Develop and implement strategies to advance the field of Australian Astronomical Optics and drive research translation and instrumentation engineering
  • Work closely with the Faculty of Science and Engineering to develop and implement research priorities and initiatives

  • Proven academic leadership in the field of Australian Astronomical Optics
  • Experience in leading and managing large technical teams
  • Strong track record of developing trust, building commitment, and fostering an environment of innovation and excellence
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers across disciplines and stakeholders
