Senior Human Resources Manager

About This Opportunity

This is a pivotal role within the Youth Detention Operation and Reform (YDOR) directorate, working in partnership with YDOR leadership teams to ensure effective delivery of detention services across Queensland. The successful candidate will provide innovative human resources solutions addressing operational needs and driving quality organisational outcomes.

The Senior Human Resources Manager will contribute to oversight and delivery of strategic, workforce, operational, and human resource functions across YDOR sites. Collaboration is key, as this role works closely with internal business partners including Industrial & Employee Relations, Recruitment, Learning & Development, and WHS.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure an inclusive culture aligning with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supporting departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and practices supporting YDOR and its sites in achieving their strategic priorities and business objectives.
  • Use recruitment, staff retention, and workforce data to identify opportunities for improvement and implement evidence-based practices enhancing a productive, inclusive, and safe working environment.
  • Drive development of frontline leadership capability by designing and implementing tailored support initiatives and career pathways.
  • Establish and maintain HR governance measures, systems, practices, and processes to facilitate best HR practice, legislative compliance, and mitigation of corporate risks.
  • Collaborate with YDOR Leadership to identify areas of need within its sites to build workforce capability effectively managing and meeting the department's objectives.
  • Effectively communicate, consult, negotiate, and advocate persuasively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide high-level leadership, coaching, mentoring, advice, and support to team members promoting a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
