Job Opportunity: Bioinformatician

The successful applicant will work in a collaborative team environment as a bioinformatician, contributing to the development of new bioinformatics pipelines and tools.


A strong grounding in microbial genomics, coupled with programming skills in scripting languages, is essential for this role. The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining existing pipelines, implementing new tools and methods, and performing various bioinformatics analyses of pathogens.


This is a permanent position based at the Microbial Pathogen Genomics Laboratory at Westmead. To be eligible for appointment, you must have Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing and updating bioinformatics tools and pipelines
  • Managing projects under supervision
  • Providing research and analysis to inform project development and implementation
Requirements:
  • Postgraduate degree in Science or Engineering in informatics or genomics
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and delivering bioinformatics projects
  • Proven proficiency in open source bioinformatics packages for genomic data analysis
