The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead power system analysis activities and develop functional level investment option designs. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for quantifying transmission network adequacy and limitations, identifying investment needs, and developing and proposing investment options to meet identified needs.
Key Responsibilities- Independently undertake simulation and analysis of the Victorian transmission network using computer simulation tools to assess network capability and identify emerging limitations.
- Interpret and justify simulation outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations.
- Provide expert technical advice on option analysis reports, conceptual and detailed designs, scopes of work, cost estimates, and design/construction delivery plans.
- Coach and direct junior staff on network analysis and design and cost estimation approaches.
- Prepare clear, concise, and high-quality written and verbal communication.
- Provide technical advice and expertise to coordinate internal resources and manage external stakeholders.
- Industry or related experience in electricity transmission network planning and design, encompassing short, medium, and/or long-term jurisdictional planning experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency using electricity network analysis tools or relevant software, specifically PSS/E and PSCAD. An understanding of, or experience in, market modelling analysis using software such as PLEXOS will also be viewed favourably.
- Understanding and knowledge of the physical construction, operation, and maintenance practices associated with primary and secondary network assets.
- Experience and solid understanding of cost estimation techniques, systems, and processes.
- Experience in cost-benefit assessment, including applying probability-based analysis techniques for investment decision making.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to prepare and deliver high-quality communications suitable for other technical experts, senior management, and external stakeholders.
