Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses overseeing the development, coordination, and governance of geospatial systems and services across the region. This involves managing day-to-day service delivery, supporting field and research projects, and ensuring spatial data remains secure, accessible, and aligned with legal and cultural protocols.

Additionally, the position entails guiding a skilled GIS team to ensure spatial data is used with accuracy, integrity, and cultural respect throughout the organization's work.

A significant aspect of this role is contributing to land claims, leasing, cultural mapping, and environmental planning to maintain spatial data as a trusted foundation for collaborative work with stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography, surveying, geography, or a related discipline is essential.
  • Extensive experience (minimum five years) in using GIS software, particularly ArcGIS Pro and geodatabase environments, including spatial data analysis and high-quality cartographic production is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising staff, managing workflows, and coordinating project delivery within a GIS or related technical environment is necessary.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Aboriginal Land Rights Act and the Native Title Act is also required.
