The role of a Collection Care Specialist involves reviewing, maintaining and repairing artworks to ensure they are in optimal condition for exhibition. Based in Edinburgh, this part-time position will focus on preparing 300 artworks for display by assessing, prioritizing and improving their state.

With a Collection Condition Survey as a starting point, the successful candidate will develop a plan to identify areas that require attention. This may involve minor repairs, new mounts or external conservation expertise. Close collaboration with specialists and conservators is essential to guarantee the highest standard of care for these original works.

Accompanying documentation, transportation and insurance arrangements will also need to be managed. The ultimate goal is to have these artworks displayed in health and social care settings across Scotland, clearly labelled as property of Art in Healthcare. Additional responsibilities include supporting the packaging, transportation and installation of artworks in these settings.

As part of this fixed-term fifteen-month role, you will oversee a Trainee Technician undertaking a Museums and Galleries Technician Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF level 7. Your guidance and management will be crucial in ensuring the success of this project.
