
Aboriginal Liaison and Support Specialist

About the Role
This position provides targeted youth support services to reduce the likelihood of young people entering or remaining in the child protection and out-of-home care systems.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and an ability to advocate for social justice outcomes.
Main Responsibilities:
- Undertake and meet all case management responsibilities in relation to young people allocated by the Team Manager.
- Maintain regular, effective, and meaningful contact with young people.
- Work within a client-centred, trauma-informed framework that is culturally appropriate.
- Ensure that case plans are regularly reviewed and facilitate the attendance of all key stakeholders at relevant meetings.
- Provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to contribute to and engage in community development programs and projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background.
- Tertiary qualification in Aboriginal Studies, Social Sciences, Social Work, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience in case management from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and family-focused framework.
- Demonstrated awareness of child protection issues and the capacity to identify levels of risk requiring statutory child protection intervention.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and superior case management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team and build positive working relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong communication, customer service, negotiation, and influencing skills.
