Heavy Equipment Technician

The role of a Heavy Equipment Technician is an exciting opportunity to support Fleet Management operations at Melbourne Airport.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions, ensuring they are working safely and properly.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Troubleshoot fuel, ignition, and emissions control systems using electronic diagnostics.
  • Tune engines for proper and efficient functioning.
  • Repair, replace, or adjust defective parts.
  • Schedule routine maintenance.
  • Install or repair air conditioners and service components.
  • Manage and control spare parts and update the vehicle maintenance system.
  • Coordinate services and repairs performed by contractors/service providers.
  • Provide on-call support after hours for breakdowns.
Requirements:
  • Proven success in a similar role, preferably with heavy equipment.
  • Mechanical trade qualifications.
  • Heavy rigid license or ability to obtain one.
  • Proven diagnostic skills.
  • Electrical and PLC knowledge is essential.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency (MS Excel and Word).
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Mandatory Police Check clearance.
