Leadership Role in Music Education

The University of Tasmania is seeking a visionary leader to spearhead the revitalisation of its Conservatorium of Music. As Director, you will drive innovation and statewide impact, fostering a collaborative culture and strong partnerships with industry, government, and community.

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Conservatorium, aligning with the University's Strategic Plan and ensuring high-quality education and research.
  • Lead a team of professionals in delivering impactful community engagement, forging strong relationships with stakeholders, and promoting the academic music program.
  • Collaborate with university departments to ensure seamless delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, leveraging expertise and resources to enhance student outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain effective governance structures, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and risk management best practices.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A proven track record in providing strategic leadership, operational management, and academic direction in a music-focused organisation, with a deep understanding of the academic context of the Conservatorium of Music.
  • A strong vision for delivering innovative, sustainable, and high-quality music education, including the design and delivery of a compelling Bachelor of Music program.
  • Experience in securing external funding, building strategic partnerships, and leading collaborative projects that drive impact and growth.
  • Excellent financial management skills, including budget development, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including academics, administrators, and industry partners.
  • Proven ability to lead change initiatives, manage risks, and make informed decisions that balance competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.
