The role of a Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner is crucial in supporting individuals affected by domestic and family violence. This position requires a dedicated professional who can provide trauma-informed care and work with women and children to address complex issues.

Job Description

This Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner role involves providing counseling services to children using trauma-informed approaches. The practitioner will also conduct intake, risk assessment, and safety planning for women and children, as well as individual counseling and psychoeducation for women. Additionally, the practitioner will provide court support for clients navigating legal systems related to domestic and family violence.

The practitioner will be responsible for women's advocacy, including referral pathways, safety upgrades, and practical supports. They will also deliver group work to support healing and education, and liaise with key stakeholders such as Child Safety, Police, Corrections, and Housing.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years' experience in DFV counseling, risk assessment, court support, and group work.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gendered violence, the DFV Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act.
  • A well-developed practice framework that aligns with trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches.
  • Experience supporting diverse families with complex needs.
  • Strong skills in report writing, case notes, data entry, and professional communication.
  • A calm and resilient presence in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage sensitively with clients and stakeholders.

Key Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Science, or Social Science.
  • Eligibility for membership with AASW, APS, ACA, or PACFA.
  • Current Queensland Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
  • National Police Check (within the last 3 months or willingness to apply).
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Evidence of Australian working rights.
