Animal Care Professional

The Animal Shelter Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring the welfare of animals and facilities within the shelter. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, good judgment, and problem-solving abilities to maintain high standards of animal wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Observing animals for signs of injury, illness, or behavioral problems and reporting to supervisors.
  • Accurate documentation and reporting of observations.
  • Providing exercise and feeding animals according to established plans.
  • Administering prescribed medications to various animals as per treatment plans.
  • Identifying suitable housing for animals.
  • Washing and grooming animals while adhering to animal handling standards and procedures.
  • Assisting customers in selecting new pets and ensuring animal, public, and staff areas are clean.
  • Coordinating the surrender and adoption process, guaranteeing accurate documentation completion.
  • Facilitating the reclaim of animals, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and fees are paid.
  • Ensuring all animals in care are identified, microchipped, and recorded.
  • Performing administrative tasks, including daily banking and answering phone calls.
  • Supporting qualified veterinarians with animal care and handling.
  • Participating in animal training, adhering to rehabilitation plans.
